Black Hawk Helicopter
Mahkatêwe-meshi-kêhkêhkwa c.1767 - 3 October 1838 (aka Black Hawk) was a leader of the British Band--of Sauks, Fox and Kikapoo--who fought against invading Americans led Henry Dodge, Jefferson Davis and Isaiah Stillman in the Illinois and Michigan territories. The live bust is dated c.1830--two years before the war and eight years before Black Hawk died west of the Mississippi River (in Iowa) renting rooms from white men and advocating racial reconciliation. His bones were disinterred in 1839 and exhibited until they were acquired by the Burlington (IA) Historical Society. The society held them until a fire in 1855.
The helicopter is a AH-1 Cobra (aka Bell 209), not a Blackhawk, from the Vietnam era located at the Kronenwetter (WI) VFW. It is not on Black Hawk's traditional Sauk land but it is in a place inhabited by British Band allies: Potawatomi and Ho-Chunk on what was called Michigan Territory in 1832.
